Default Adaptions:

Sorry about disappearing for a while guys, I landed my happy little rear up in hospital for quite a while, I'm going to be fine but my working methods are going to have to adapt to a lot of changes.

So anyway, I need to adapt my studio to actually continue work, has anyone got any suggestions for adaptions to make it possible to paint/draw while lying down?

Just out of curiosity even if you can't suggest something, it would be interesting to hear about adaptions you have made to your studio to cope with problems?

Possibly...
What kind of monitor do you have
When you say "laying down," be more specific. Flat on your back? Side? Elevated at all?
What type of bed. How much "spare room" and accessibility around the sides and feet?
How much traffic around the immediate area?

I can envision a somewhat flexible setup, but like everything in Life, it depends...

I'm not sure if you are speaking more of traditional tools, vs. digital, but it seems as though you will be needing something fairly unorthodox for this if you are limited to lying on your back Subversive. The most that comes to mind atm, is to try and adapt something along the lines of an adjustable, bedside table/tray or two. It would still be pretty limited, but would allow you to at least keep some of your primary tools within reach.

I have a CRT monitor, I'm about to make over my studio room anyway so everything else is subject to change. I've already brought two new comfy chairs to sit in including one that allows me to swing back almost to a horizontal position. Plenty of spare room, the rest of the room is largely empty and little to no traffic besides me.

I'm not limited to lying on my back all the time but sometimes I am restricted to lying down since sitting up means a face plant, the position is not terribly important since it's more to stop me doing a face plant into my equipment/off a stool should I pass out while working. Face plant + sharp tools = very bad. I'm not so fond of the local hospital that I want to spend any more time in it.

Apparently rather than high blood pressure I have extremely low blood pressure which occasionally dips so low that my brain keeps getting starved of blood/oxygen which results in unconsciousness. However I'm going to pester my doctor about sending me to one of the top specialist centres in the country so hopefully they will be able to make me all better.

I considered a bedside table adaption, I'd have to move my bed though. I'm due to have a consultation for alterations to my house in general so I plan to see what they say about the studio's set up.

If you are willing to swap out that CRT for a flat panel, then check this out. It would be almost perfect for your situation...

With the CRT, Weight is your biggest problem. Now, this tablethis table has a 50 pound limit, and can pivot 360 degrees.

If you use a Wacom tablet, a large side pocket on the chair can store the tablet when not in use. A small shelf table on the other side can also store the tablet, and other misc...

Hope this helps you some, Good luck!

I'm sticking to CRT, better display, besides I really don't want something covered with computer equipment that I can fall into and knock down. I'm thinking of having my monitor mounted on a custom made long swiveling arm so when I need to go lie down I can just keep on working since I have a place to lounge in my work room, or maybe switching to dual monitors and using whichever one is appropriate for my position.

The table is rather expensive and intended for a specific chair, I'm looking into alternatives for that and I'm planning to switch some of my existing furniture for furniture that will reduce the chances of the faceplants happening. I note the table you linked doesn't come with the chair and wouldn't fit onto our existing three piece or the new set we're planning on buying anyway so even if it wasn't pricey for what it is, it wouldn't fit the house.

It's given me some ideas, now I just have to do the leg work to find workable alternatives.

Good. I don't know your budget or your circumstances, but at least you have some directions to work with.

I understand the monitor thing. I switched from 4 19" Diamondtron CRTs to 19" flat panels. Honestly? Once you get used to the differect display manner, it doesn't make that big a difference.

Best of success to you!
