I think it's been mentioned before, but in those instances that you do decide, or find it useful towards your image to use filters such as "lens-flare", or "lighting effects", then do so in a way that's it's not very noticeable at all that you did include them.
Those tools aren't evil or anything, and are fun to play around and experiment with, but in these instances they would definitely work much better as subtle-enhancements to what you have on the canvas, as opposed to being fully rendered components of your piece, as it ends up overpowering and washing out much of what contrast was there.
Also, the work you did with the planet itself is good, but there is a single, noticeable cloud-line near the center that doesn't fit with the rest of your cloud formations.
