needed some decent facetime tonight to chill a bit and work an idea up Mully, and even then (of course!) a little stronger idea hit the noggin' while working this one lol. I suppose them's the breaks tho. ;(

I kept only the highest and lowest values to heart here and worked mid-range from there, knife-edges excluded. After looking it over, I've decided to remove the flippers/fins on the left side because it was really killing the focus, and affecting some key parts of the silhouette.

Great effort mate.

lol I don't know about all that guys, but thanks! In hindsight, I don't think it looks sinister enough...I actually wouldn't be too scared about it I think...the eyes make it seem fairly docile ><;;
Also IGB...from what I've been told; kaber borrowed the brain-juicerizer from Aussiemum last weekend. something to do with some lost lore he discovered having to do with leprechuan-brains? yeah, I dunno for sure... but he's up to something BIGGGG!

CB3's last work rocks! Gorgeous shape, and the mix of colors is perfect, I think

I just think some or maybe just I, thought we were supposed to paint with 3 solid colors - no blending. Now I admit that was tough. No acctually I couldn't handle it in the limited time. Not my place to be picky but you have alot of white in that pic that was only supposed to use that specific palette. :) Cool creature but you bent the rules :)

I think you may have misinterpreted/misunderstood what was being asked, the white in CB's image is simply the background, no white is used in his painting of the creature.
The task was to paint the 'creature' using only the 3 colours provided, the bg colour could have been white, black or a value from the grey scale BUT you couldnt use any other colour in the creature.

Its like being asked to do the same task in traditional media on paper, you couldnt count the paper as a colour being used.

Most questions on this task asked I personally think were answered fully and in an understandable way, the discussion on the bg colour perhaps should have been mentioned?

The decision still stands as CB was the only member to enter on time and inside the guidelines.

I understand the rules. I'm not painting cows to win but to practise so that's no deal to me. I guess we all need something to paint on but for me that was all but clear. If I have three colors then three it is including the canvas. Hell I'll paint on pinc canvas and it wil jump off But that is a whole different approach. I mean if I get to choose bg color then why stick to the gray scale? or are white and black not colors? I'm really not looking for a argument here. I didn't do the cow cos I didnt have the time. Now that I did have the time to check what came out of last week I was surpiced there were only one and how it was done. So thinking it's a shame to only have one image in the thread I took the time to paint some.

cheers and see you next week if time permits.

definitely some initial uncertainty, and hesitance on my end towards going that route on bkg Wellander, but ultimately day's fatigue and time-factor
really forced the decision for me there lol then I didn't think about it much after going back to re-read some of the commentary about using solid white, or black. regardless tho; I get your point on that end.
I like how you've managed it within your concept, where it's easy to understand particular areas where you really had to work your key-lighting skillz to achieve the contrast needed for separating each given element there effectively. ok; pretty random thought here, not to mention a very different looking concept, but the way their mouths are agape while floating around reminds me of the Sharkticon-pit from the original Transformers movie.:p (some of the most memorable scenes in that flick imo )

thanks for the comments everyone. Also, I hope the discussion points haven't soured things for anyone, cause it would be cool to see a nice variety of fresh entries come in for the new weeklies! :D

Cool, Thanks. I don't have a clue what the original Transformers movie was. I assume you aint talking the Bay one.
I do think yours were alot cooler than mine. More sculptural and fluid.

Cheers!
