nFire , you are being quite lazy here :P I'd call your first painting a "first line" and your second painting a "sketch" at best.

You have access to the workshop, theres some stuff in there on value already.. Maybe pick them up ?

If you don't like the structures of the workshop, then try to paint and copy whatever is around you in your room!

also a sketchbook would be a great thing to always carry around. Always take the opportunities you are given, and draw from life.. theres so much cool stuff out there that you could benefit from studying.

Take your time man.. Art isn't something that gets finished in a heartbeat.

sorry, but you would be better when you did what you were suggested to do. I think there were about 10 people giving you advice and you didnt even put one of these into action.

People please stay friendly. We don't know how much time he invested into his paintings. But I have to agree with Dile in this case. If you're a member of the workshop then you have to work harder on your self discipline. Trust me its all about that while painting...I have sketches lying around which I don't want to post cause I am not that satisfied with, but to get better I have to see my own progress of getting better.

Good start.

My advice would be to take and image of the thing you really like.
For example; An ancient Greek temple. Take a moment to look at all the things that make it up, pillars, cubes, stairs, triangles ect.. they're complicated shapes and certainly not just a diagonal line running through the canvas.

No, you have to capture the essence of the subject matter, if its a Greek temple then look at it and capture the silhouette (or outline) and then dive in the details, what makes it look like a temple? Draw the pillars, the tiny decoration on the roof, people walking about.

Don't be scared of the canvas, fill it QUICKLY with colour/value and then what you really have to do is have fun. You must enjoy it to maintain motivation :D

Another hint, don't necessarily start to use a digital program such as Photoshop or Painter. Grab a pencil/pen and maybe some greyscale/colour markers and keep on drawing from life at first.

If you do something everyday, you're gonna end up getting good at it.

Keep it up! You'll do fine

I just can not get the hang of lighting and shadows, I've read most of the material available here it's helped me a lot I'll admit but I'm still not doing it quite right.
I'm not sure if its a problem with tones or just my understanding of light and shadows.
