Default SOTW - Design Brief Mini #2

(shoutz to IGB for our rockin' challenge-banners!)

Welcome to the CGPAD Speed of the Week - Design Brief Mini #2.

Our, imaginary movie studio client has come back again to CGPAD.org to find fresh new talent. They need an awesome group of artists [you!] to create some killer concept designs for their new blockbuster film. Here's the brief:

You must submit designs for a
Demon Warrior. Our client is open to all interpretations, which includes having various forms of weaponry, clothing, etc., but your submissions must also comply with the following rules.

* Pale, splotchy skin. (regardless of hue)
* Medallion, which contains a red, glowing ruby inside

Entry guidelines:
> Entries must be speed paints based around the theme.
> Only new images please - no old images or WIPs should be entered.
> The painting should take you no more than
3-4 hour max to complete.
> Please keep image to a forum friendly size.
> Any medium goes!

Timescales:
Challenge starts Sunday, and ends on Friday. Each week. Voting takes place on Saturdays.

This week's theme: Demon Warrior

I say go for the third. The splotchy skin is the hard part and harder still with a chitenous exoskeleton I'd think.

Progress:

Holy cow! Im already at 3.5 hours.... and I got only the quite finished rendering of the Demon.... it took me it seems ages to polish it up.... and Im still not so happy with it....

I uploaded a big picture so you can have a good look at it....

SO PEOPLE DO YOU HAVE ANY HELP ??? I AM A BIT PISSED! DOES IT REALLY TAKE SO F... LONG TO MAKE SOMETHING LOOK GOOD? OR IS IT MY LACK OF XP IN THIS???

DB3 / IGB: Is it ok to work at it for 4.5 hours??? Pretty please??

CB3: I took your advice from the last Design Brief about the brushes and so on... and well see for yourself.... :-)

OK

I did it...

Sorry for not wating for an answer if the timelimit can be streched to 4.5 hours... you can without regret disqualifie me if you feel like it....

I had no time for colors... but Ill be traying out a bit.... has anyone heard from Jason Chans coloring method: Doing the black&white rendering and using an overlay layer on it...??? He speaks about it in Massiveblacks exploring sryles... or is it villans? Well anyway these are cool vids... 4 everyone....

Heres my demon warrior concept:

The Demon Warrior is a lone warrior. He doesnt feel pitty or remorse. He is like a machine that fullfills his masters orders to please him as best as he can.
His rank is low in the demon hierarchie. There are millions if not infinite more like him.
He is bred for a single purpose. To hunt down his pray. For he is is bred into a "pure near perfection wreaking utter havoc and terror "body which is balanced in mind and flesh to fullfill his death wishes.
His claws are like razorblades.
His horns and spikes are quite unbreakable and can penetrate evan a fine armor.
He can move as fast as a cat.

He is a pure bred hunter, he hunts down life itself.

arghhhhhhh.....pure awesome

Hey Thujon; given how much you've put into improving your work methods, it would be difficult for us to just blindly penalize you for the errors; (even if the rest of us had been able to squeeze in something ourselves this week lol) but of course, always double-check and cement-in those guidelines for your real clients :)

also yep, I agree that those Chan vids are insightful in a quite a few aspects of digi-paints. I love how your concept has come along man. of course time was a factor here, and you are trying out some new things, but if you happen to revisit this, or come across something similar in your next creation, concentrate as well on promoting differences between textures...

for ex: skin vs. metallic attire...rough vs. smooth surfaces. how highlights should "read" differently depending on that surface-tooth, etc....excelsior!
