update from me...
anyone thought yet of putting this into the jungle?
i did some more research on google earth :D that rift is so huge, i reaches across the äquator...
though i first liked the idea of having a desert environment, i found a place which i like much more. i add screencaps (also from the first idea).

so yeah, i did a few more thumbs and pencil sketches. with quick overpaints.

hey everyone! been a loooong time since i poste here @ cgpad! saw the challenge this week (today, lol kinda late hehe) but looks like fun and i'll see if i can get something done by tonight or tomorrow. working on a character now, took some reference from early 20 century fashion but also want to make him look ready for exploring so i'll add some other things on him as well. and of course he's not the only team member so i'll do hopefully another three characters.

I'll post also an image with refs for you guys to check out if you need.

also would like to as something to everyone, I got my macbook very recently and i love it but somethings are kinda hard to get used too. If anyone has any tips to improve workflow on photoshop (trial) on a mac or gimp would be nice!

lovely idea to do some character work, luis! i really like that.
just make sure you're giving them hats, that'll bring up that 20th-feeling ;)
maybe you could even get a preview of the in-game optics? i'm always imagening of a 3rd persons view when thinking of this^^

Great work D-Man. Nice lighting. My initial thoughts for this [great rift valley / remote area] were of a more undisturbed prehaps tropical area around the sink-hole - in reference to your previous post.

Things are looking great guys - thought this might present a challenge and get people thinking 'what do i go for?!'

Who's going to take on the action scene? or base camp? .... :)

small update, sketches for new team members but don't think i'll be able to finish these. Having a hard time with face and overall look, not to sure if it actually looks 20C. any ideas?

luis: i think when you add a bit more stiff clothes like suits, vests, hats or maybe even safari-outfits, you might get the mood you want..
i suggest to watch some movies to get into the mood.. i watched indiana jones and the intro of stargate to get into it^^

yep you're right, i just saw 10 mins of the film: pride and prejudice to get a feel for a more old look, even though I think that fikm is more like 18 or 19 century. Thanks for the feedback!

Nice panorama piece! love the colour you put in, very calm. nice work :)

giving a go at an enviro. this would be the scene where the explorers fall from the surface into the abyss. I want to make the actual underground "beautiful" yet gloomy like in the description so you have this contrast of the explorers falling (4 dots at the top) and almost dying yet they will fall into a river/ over sized puddle which is a dramatic scene but the environ balances it out. Just a quick sketch.

EDIT: few more progress shots, maybe starting colour.

You guys are so active on this... DM, cery cool last piece.. but isnt the Design breif mini about storyboarding this time?, or am I getting this wrong? I havnt worked on it anymore....Ive been absorbed doing my daily studies.... :-((

From next week Ill be working for full time whole 5 weeks, mmm hope Ill have spare time to do them every day.....

i think the term "storyboarding" is more related to the fact,that the pieces are going to be put together in the end- as far as i understood it ;)

nice enviros DM! i like the values in there. Yeah what i understood is that the entrances will be put in story board layout, so in sequence to tell a story. like this: http://www.massiveblack.com/MBwebolution/storyboards/
or at least that's what i understood.

here are some updates, first i had the explorers falling very far in the distance but i thought that was too boring, no action. so i've made them fall very close to camera to make it more dramatic. however, i'm not 100% sure i like it so i'll work on it a bit more. also on the splash in the water.
