Instead of trying to paint full forms why not go back to basics and get the proportions correct using stick and block men. Try taking life study classes, sketch from life (pencil & paper) or even sketch your family at home.
Start off by breaking the body into parts, spend a few weeks on each body part so you understand its construction (sheet after sheet of the same body part)-
yes its boring but its very valuable, then group them together. For example; study the hands, then the forearms, upper arms and shoulder construction in different positions. When your happy group them together and produce more studies of the arm, move onto the next section etc etc.......
Once you understand how the body is constructed ie dimensions for the various body parts, coupled with an understanding of perspective (foreshortening etc) will you be able to convincingly convey the human form.
